World Maternal Mental Health Day

To commemorate World Maternal Mental Health Day which took place on May 1, the City of Mount Pearl invited perinatal psychologist Dr. Archana Vidyasankar of the Perinatal Mental Health Alliance to say a few words at last week’s council meeting. Vidyasankar said the prevalence of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders in the province is currently at 28 percent, which is eight percent higher than the national average. The organization's goals, she said, are to increase awareness, education, support and coordination for parents, and advocate for government and communities to increase supports.
