Finalists for best in sport awards unveiled

The Mount Pearl Athletic Awards Selection Committee has announced finalists for the 2021 Sports Hall of Fame & Annual Athletic Awards Ceremony, to be held on Monday, June 20 at the Reid Community Centre.

The Female Athlete of the Year award will go to either Beth Tremblett of Mount Pearl Soccer or Sarah Dawe of Dalhousie Volleyball.

Andrew d’Entremont and Jack Keough, both members of the Mount Pearl Junior Blades team, and Michael Drover of Campia Gymnastics, are all in the running for Male Athlete of the Year.

Three folks are in the running for the Adult Volunteer Working with Youth ‘Dave Holloway Memorial’ Award: Joanne Burry, Mount Pearl-Paradise Skating Club; Ashlen Mersereau, Marlins Swim Team; and, Desiree Simmons, Dogs Rugby Club.

Kyle Murphy and Steve Nolan, both with Campia Gymnastics, and Trevor Murphy of Mount Pearl Minor Baseball are in the running for Coach of the Year.

David Oake with the Dogs Rugby Club, Gayle Cave with the MPP Youth Bowling YBC and Marsha Ransome, with the Mount Pearl Soccer Association, are all up for the Executive of the Year ‘Peter Halliday Memorial’ Award.

The Official of the Year Award will go to either Paul Breen with the Mount Pearl Hockey Referees Association or Trent Carter of the Marlins Swim Team.
