Mount Pearl students represented their city well at the recent 2022 Skills Canada National Competition held in Vancouver from May 25 – 28.
Mason Gulliver of College of the North Atlantic Ridge Road campus, formerly of O’ Donel High School, won the gold medal for Architectural Technology and Design. Skills Canada defines ATD as a modern, computer-age version of traditional architectural design. The designer is responsible for developing working drawings, plans, diagrams or layouts based on the sketches, calculations, specification sheets and other data supplied by architects and engineers.
Evan Vokey, a level 3 student at Mount Pearl Senior High, earned the bronze medal for IT Network Administration. IT network administrators install and maintain multi-platform networking computer environments, data networks, and telecommunication infrastructures. They are responsible for operating, programming, and configuring electronics, hardware, and software, while also investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving user problems. Vokey was also recently named the Mount Pearl Focus on Youth STEM Award winner.
Marty Best, of the Carpenter Millwright College, won bronze in the Carpentry competition. The competition included tasks such as measuring, cutting, framing, and assembling materials.
In total, Team NL earned 20 medals.
